JSC GEOTEK has completed the winter field season in Eastern Siberia and the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District

Press Releases

Seismic exploration parties 105, 102 and 132 of the Krasnoyarsk branch of GEOTEK JSC have successfully implemented large-scale 3D seismic exploration projects in Eastern Siberia and the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug (Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District)

An integrated approach to carrying out work using advanced technologies, as well as the high professionalism and experience of the team made it possible to obtain detailed and reliable data on the structure of the subsurface of the studied areas.

A large-scale 3D seismic exploration project in the Katangsky and Kirensky districts of the Irkutsk Region covered an area of 1,400 km2. Drilling and blasting and seismic exploration were carried out in the harsh taiga zone with complex geological features, where 100% of the territory is covered with dense forests. This required the involvement of additional personnel for logging and topogeodetic work. During the peak period, 30 drilling rigs and 10 seismic crews worked simultaneously on the project, which allowed for the registration of more than 1,000 physical observations per day. The total number of staff reached 400 people.

The second subsurface area under study, located on the territory of the Katangsky district of the Irkutsk region, is characterized by a hilly ridge relief with wide watersheds and shallow valleys, permafrost formations and wetlands. In the permafrost zone, due to the heterogeneity of the elastic properties of thawed and frozen rocks, there is a significant background of interference and distortion of the wave travel time. Therefore, the seismic survey methodology provided for the coverage of the licensed area using pulse technology. The high-quality data obtained by SP-102 will allow the customer to continue studying the geological structure of the area and make informed decisions on further steps in the field of exploration.

SP-132 has completed surveys of two sites in the Purovsky district of the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug. The work was carried out in the harsh northern taiga with difficult orohydrographic conditions, with developed man-made interference and extensive special protective forest areas, within which it was forbidden to conduct seismic surveys. To minimize the influence of these factors and obtain the most complete picture of the geological structure of the site, a comprehensive method of seismic signal excitation was used: both explosive sources and pulsed signal excitation technology. This approach has significantly reduced the loss of seismic information that could occur due to a large number of obstacles.

- The successful completion of the planned volumes of work in the winter field season was made possible by the round-the-clock work of highly professional GEOTECH specialists in seismic parties. The timely implementation of the investment program, which provides for equipping the parties with modern drilling rigs, high-terrain vehicles such as MTLB, bulldozers and other geophysical equipment necessary to obtain high-precision data in difficult natural conditions, also played an important role," said Roman Panov, President of GEOTECH JSC.
