JSC «GEOTEK,» a geological exploration company, is continuing its 3D seismic survey projects in the Purovsky District of the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug.

In February, Seismic Party No. 132 successfully completed research on an area of approximately 220 square kilometers and, by March, moved on to the next site, covering more than 110 square kilometers. At its peak, the party’s total workforce reached 204 people.

The ongoing research is focused on the prospecting and evaluation stage of geological exploration. This includes a detailed analysis of the area’s geological structure, identifying promising oil and gas-bearing formations, and preparing them for subsequent drilling. In Western Siberia, seismic surveys remain a key method for assessing subsurface potential, contributing to the growth of category D0 hydrocarbon reserves.

The Pur River Basin, rich in natural resources, has long been informally referred to as the «Russian Klondike.» However, conducting geological exploration in this region presents significant challenges. Harsh climatic conditions, complex terrain and hydrography, the presence of man-made interference, and designated protected forest areas—where seismic activity is strictly limited—necessitate the use of advanced technologies and unconventional solutions.

To minimize the impact of these factors and obtain the most comprehensive picture of the site’s geological structure, specialists from SP-132 employ a complex method of seismic signal excitation. The project utilizes both explosive sources and impulse signal excitation technology. This approach significantly reduces seismic data losses that could otherwise occur due to numerous obstacles.
